SGA-Looking Upwards

Head straight through...

Okay. So even though I had my brother in law's birthday to celebrate today I'm making sure that I'm carving out a chunk of time to journal the crap out of my resolutions. Because I've been meaning to do this for the past two days and I'm not going to let it fall by the wayside.

Books and all the things that go along with that
Last year's resolution was to read 100 books. Since I blew that out of the water (289, babies!), I figured that I do something a little different this year. I signed up for 10 reading challenges, which range from reading a minimum of 10 books for one to a minimum of 36 books for another. My goal is to complete all the challenges I entered. All of them. I can cross-post books that fit into the different categories across challenges so I don't think I'll have a hard time completing the challenges. However, I think tracking them and submitting the reviews at the different hosting sites is going to be a little difficult. I guess I'm going to have to be a good girl and stay on top of things.

Indiviual challenge progress pages - Pretty much what it sounds like- a snapshot of where I stand in each of the challenges.

Writing, aka: The thing I want to do most in the world
Last year's resolution was to write more and try to get my numbers up to a slightly more respectable number than in 2009. Seeing as I wrote over 165K words I think I accomplished that. However, I still think I can be more consistent with the amount of writing I do. I want to try to crank out a minimum of 1000 words a day. Consistently. Not 2000 today and 0 tomorrow. In theory, by the end of the year I'll have a grand total of over 365K words. Here's the thing, I know that's not going to happen. Not because I don't think I can do it- I honestly think I can do anything I set my mind to- but because the second part of what I want to do with my writing in 2011 is to finish editing novel #1 (and #2, really) and start submitting to publishers. When I'm editing, I'm not writing. I haven't found that balance yet where I can do both like some authors.

So my overall goal here is to write more consistently to go above and beyond last year's word count and edit my two novels to start submitting them to publishers.

Miscellaneous online stuff
I want to try to be more active in commenting on blogs (book and personal) and just more active in social media in general. I also want to be less judgmental when it comes to the stupid things people sometimes post. Just, you know, not let things get to me. Because sometimes I do and it's lame. I mean, have you guys ever read an article on yahoo and then made the mistake of scrolling down to the comments? Holy Hannah! People are so bitter and full of hate sometimes. One of the reasons I stopped reading celebrity feeds and celebrity magazines last year was because the negativity of it all was starting to get to me. Regardless of whether or not celebrities did something stupid or wore lame clothes, they're still people with feelings and I got tired of the way the media would tear them down. I got tired of the way we, as so-called fans of these celebrities, would turn into ravening beasts the moment they did anything that was construed as newsworthy.

And now I feel like I have to put in my disclaimer: Guys, if you like reading that stuff, power to you. I don't. Like I said, I got tired of the constant negativity and the constant celebrity bashing. I got tired of reading ignorant comments from people who think that everyone in California smokes pot and molests children (which, yes, was a real comment I read on a yahoo article once). I got tired of being angry at all the hate I was reading. So I stepped away from it. My choice. Life's too fucking short for me to be obsessing over comments from people I don't know and celebrities I'll never meet.

Miscellaneous resolutions in general
I'm going to stop caring as much what people think of me. I like my skulls and my dyed red hair. I like my corset tops and my fuck-me boots. No, I don't have a job. That doesn't mean I don't do anything all day. I read. I write. I help my kid with his homework. I plot. I drink coffee. I make lists. I won't apologize for it (except when I write up 4 book reviews in one day and clog up the feed readers!).

Anyway. I read a book today.
Book #3 - My Soul To Save (Soul Screamers #2) by Rachel Vincent - Another solid addition to the series.
In My Mailbox - Wow. I got a lot of books this week. Most of them were free, too.

Randomly, I've finally cracked the Top 100 Reviewers in the US list on Goodreads. The list was generated on Jan. 1st so I assume it was for the month of December unless they have the capability to see into the future. I'm #74! Yay!

Okay. This post is massive. Much bigger than I thought it would be. Oops.
I'm done now. I promise.
